Feedback that lands

A simple way to say the hard thing, kindly and clearly.

The model

Situation, behavior, impact

  1. Situation: when and where it happened
  2. Behavior: what you saw or heard, not what you assume
  3. Impact: what it caused, for you or the team

Same message, two ways

Vague

  • "You're not a team player."
  • Feels like a judgment
  • Nothing to act on

Specific

  • "In Monday's review, you shut down Ana's idea before she finished. She stopped contributing."

Spot it

Which one follows situation, behavior, impact?

  1. "Your reports are always late."
  2. "Yesterday's report came in after the client call, so I presented without the numbers."
  3. "You should care more about deadlines."

B names when it happened, what happened, and what it caused.

Build the sentence

  1. "In this morning's stand-up…"
  2. "…you answered for Sam twice…"
  3. "…and he didn't get to share his update."

Try it this week

One piece of feedback, three parts, within a day of the moment.
